What will you do with all those tomatoes?

..... eat a lot of them fresh in salads, BLTs, etc. But most of them will be canned in the form of tomato sauce or salsa.

We really don't have trouble using the tomatoes, its the squash that we run out of ideas for, and I don't think you can can the stuff. I'm thinking about running it through the dehydrator, storing it in vacuum-seal bags and using them in soups/stews later.

The bugs would just get it. I do love zucchini though in salads or baked in bread.

You can freeze squash, I think.

... or the squash bugs will ruin your yield. Last year, we started inspecting the underside of the leaves every day or two, looking for squash bug eggs. When we found a clump, we use a square piece of duct tape to pull them off the leaf.

This year, we've only found 3 bugs total. The best way to dispatch them is with a pair of scissors, just cut them in half, they never see it coming Works for grasshoppers too!

I'm so jealous. Only two of our 13 tomato plants have any sign of tomatoes on them, and that's just a couple tiny, hard, green orbs. One of my three okra is flowering but none are over 4" tall yet. I have one fledgling crooked-neck squash, and the cukes haven't even begun to flower. I think I'm a good month away from anything resembling this harvest!

We have a lot of green ones, and two red cherry tomatoes! I am fighting early blight, though. I spray, spray, spray!

I'm in PA... and we can't plant until Memorial Day.

They tell us it's okay to plant after Mother's Day, but this year we got clobbered by snow on May 12th and in 2007 we had a hard frost on June 8th! So Memorial Day is really my planting date as well. I have tried starting seeds indoors a couple years now but with mixed success. I might try it one more year, but if my results don't improve, I'll probably just end up buying the starters like I used to.
