I'm an avid tomato grower and have several raised beds for heirloom varieties like Pink Brandywine, Black Cherry, Black Krim, Mortgage Lifter, and Yellow Pear. But that's only for Spring/Summer. This year I built an indoor growing cage and decided to grow Glacier tomatoes, as they are very cold tolerant and are a quick 50 day tomato as a winter hobby/experiment.
I started the seeds under my standard T5HO lights and kept them under this for two months. Once I had a good set of tomatoes, I switched to LED lights which caused quite a growth spurt. I have 3 Glacier tomatoes and a control cherry tomato. So far so good.

(16,308 posts)They went great with some tacos. It seems the deluge has begun, and another 7 ripened this week.
Meanwhile, my Summer garden tomatoes are getting groomed. I always try to advance the season as much as possible to give my heirloom varieties time to produce a lot of fruit before summer ends.

(16,308 posts)I have regular production now, with many yet to ripen. I have learned a few things, including never counting on a 3 foot semi-determinant to actually only grow 3 feet high. I ran out of space to raise the LED lights, so the leaves nearest the LEDs got bleached from the intense light. Despite the damage, the plants are producing good fruit. Also, what I thought was a Riesentraube grape is actually a Black Cherry, which has made me even happier with that part of the experiment.
