Related: About this forumThis is what I saw, at the foot of my bed, at 2am
I woke up after just 3 hours of sleep, and I mean WOKE up. I was so frustrated at not being able to sleep for more than 3 hour at a stretch. I turned on a soft light and saw this. Trust me, I calmed right down.

(27,238 posts)A few hours later, they disturbed me. Arthur has his big brother's bad habit of attacking my toes. Fortunately, if I put a folded blanket over them, he just keeps attacking the blanket. Madoc? He burrows UNDER the blanket to get that toe access back.

(46 posts)Here I was, expecting to hear about experiencing demons (resulting from sleep paralysis)

(27,238 posts)It happened a lot when I was in the Navy but has continued, very sporadically, over the years. Sitting here, now, I can fully recall what a horrible thing it is to experience. Experiencing demons is a good description.
that too. The only time it happened was if I napped in the afternoon and it happened when I was in my late teens and twenties. What I found disturbing was I could hear what was going on around me, but couldnt move or of course wake up. Just a horrible feeling.

(46 posts)I experienced it when my doctor provided me with a sample of Belsomra - really freaky, a red LED light from a piece of electronics became a sinister element that was out to get me and I was unable to move. I was at least able to explain it when I woke up completely - a lot of people can't do that.
There's some research (which has been replicated) that links sleep paralysis as the most likely explanation for many of those alien abduction stories as well as some of the repressed recollections of sexual abuse.
