Gwyn just found out how nice a warm cuddle on a cold day can be.

It's just plain unpleasant, today. Breezy, cold, cloudy. Miserable day. I picked up Gwyn and gave him a nice long, warm snuggle. He seemed to really like that.

I think it best to try and bring all 3 in at one time or in close succession so I've come up with a plan. I'm going to put the playpen out in the yard, tomorrow, and let them explore. Ideally I would be able to zip it shut when all 3 are inside.

If that doesn't happen, at least it won't be a foreign place if/when I do bring them in.

The weather is going to warm up and my very experienced cat rescuer friend will be here on Sunday. She is staying for a few days so hopefully we can gather all 3 at once. I'm pretty sure I might already have a home for 2 of them.

The boys are fully vaccinated so I'm not to worried about them coming into contact, except for fleas. Maybe the cooler weather will put a damper on that problem but there will be NO barrier-free contact until flea baths/treatments have been completed. And since they have been seeing each other through the porch windows for a while, I'm not overly worried about any aggression but will be on guard.

There is a way to completely get rid of them and it doesn't cost very much.

Frontline and Advantage work but you have to spray them or put it on the back of the neck and they still have fleas.
And Capstar works great for a 24-hour flea treatment but giving them that pill can be a real pain. Plus, it costs about $30 for just 6 pills.

So I looked online for the active ingredient in Capstar, nitenpyram, and found it in powder form, and it cost 1/1000th what Capstar costs.
So that takes care of killing fleas for one day (It only works for 24 hours. And the best part is the amount is very small (15 mg) so they eat the food and never notice any additions.

And I found lufenuron in powder form, which is stored in the cats' fatty tissue for about 30 days. This doesn't kill adult fleas but rather makes the baby fleas born without their outer shell which kills them minutes after they are born. So they get this once a month. 15 mg per pound so most get 100-150 mg. Scoops come with each container so you can measure the dosage.

And the toxic amount is about 100 times the normal dose so there is no overdose unless you are totally nuts. And you can give them both at the same time. Total cost for about two years supply was 70$.

So now none of the cats scratch. If I see one scratch more than a couple of times, they get a dose of nitenpyram in their next soft food meal. I am very happy now.

Here is a link to get the powder. There was an even cheaper site but it recently stopped selling and is for sale.

This link is still fairly cheap for bulk.

Since these are likely related to the two boys, could be very peaceful reunion sort of thing too.

I have done this with cats & a dog. And I will vouch for capstar aka flea killer.

Wear latex gloves, so your skin is safer, make a soap ring under their head, wash the head last.
