Related: About this forumHold good thoughts, please,
that my application to adopt a rescue dog currently in foster will be approved.
It's been over two years since I had the vet come to my apartment to put my dear Snowy to sleep. I have missed her so much. Mostly I would tell myself I didn't want another dog, but in the last few months I've found myself looking on Petfinder and checking local shelters online.
This morning I filled out the application for Penny and just called my former vet to alert them the rescue group would be calling them first. The group only has email contact, so I won't know until they contact me if Penny is even still available!
I can see Penny in my house.

(3,416 posts)May the powerful energy of the universe, allow this adoption to move forward for mnhtnbb. Please allow Penny to have this chance to be loved, and cared for by mnhtnbb, for the rest of her life. I wish this with all of my heart. Snowy was so fortunate to have been part of your family, I hope my Markie, who left this earth last Thursday, has met up with Snowy at the rainbow bridge and they are frolicking together in the sun.

You took such good care of Snowy--Penny would be very lucky to be part of your household.
All the best!

(32,074 posts)for an hour last night and she sent me some photos this morning.
Now I'm ambivalent. She's in Tennessee with a foster taken out of a high kill shelter in Memphis. Been with the foster mom since last Valentine's Day! Had a medical issue which didn't get fixed until a third vet surgically corrected it. No problem now for months. Was adopted once, but sent back. She escaped out the front door of her new owner, but nipped the neighbor who grabbed her. Understandable and preventable.
Penny has dog and kitty siblings in the foster home, so she's now used to pals and activity.
My concern is about the medical issue repeating (prolapsed rectum) if she gets stressed coming to a new home, and the energy level she's used to as opposed to being an only fur baby in my home, and no, I don't want two dogs.
Going to see another dog tomorrow at a shelter about an hour away. This baby looks like she could be a cousin to the dog we had before Snowy, who was adopted from a shelter when we lived in Nebraska.
Penny is a terrier mix and the dog I'll see tomorrow looks like a retriever mix, but with a long coat. Both girls are all black.

(32,074 posts)After talking with the foster mom, it was clear to me that Penny is right where she belongs, with doggy and kitty sibs, and a big backyard.
And when I started thinking about bringing a dog used to being in a one pet household home--which would be a much better fit for the dog--I realized that I am not fully committed to the changes I would need to make to change my living alone lifestyle.
So instead of driving an hour to meet the shelter dog this morning, I cancelled the appointment, went for a walk under the street lights and stars, will go to the grocery store and the library, water my newly planted trees, and do laundry today.
