Related: About this forumAnyone have a flopping fish cat toy?
Still searching for toys that might entice my obese senior girl to get some exercise.
It has great ratings on Amazon, but who knows how many are real?
It has both catnip & silvervine to insert into the toy.
My girl doesn't seem to be affected by catnip. Maybe the silvervine might catalyze some movement?
If you have one, do your kitties play with it?
Tyia!

(29,906 posts)They like eating them and my pond has way too many bluegills.

(59,635 posts)I don't have a pond, but frequently feed my ferals cans of tuna & they love it.
This is a motion-activated toy with a supposedly long-lasting (USB) battery.
I continue to search for things that will get my senior girl moving...
If you have any ideas, please share. She will not chase a laser pointer, just looks at me as if to say, "Don't infantalize me. It won't bleed."
Same with other toys. Catnip doesn't work.
And she continues to gain weight.
I'll be taking her to vet for bloodwork in a couple of weeks if she doesn't start losing some weight.

(27,299 posts)I had a 15% off coupon at Ollie's and thought, what the heck. My niece said Freya LOVES hers so I'll try one on these hooligans.

(59,635 posts)I'm really concerned for my senior girl. She demands to eat every 3 hrs & if I prolong feeding much beyond that, she will often throw up.
I wish there were a kitty appetite suppressant.
She has always been a chow hound, so to speak...
Pls let me know how your crew likes the fish? My girl has never liked toys, only things that are real prey. 😏

(16,296 posts)Gave it to my son and his cat loves it - plays with it and drags it to his bed
Only thing my cat plays with is string of any kind. Got him a stick with a feather on it and he's happy.

(16,296 posts)I ordered one & also some high quality Japanese silvervine powder.
I'm hoping & praying this will act as a stimulant & catalyze some play.
I've bought her every conceicable toy I could find to get her moving, all to no avail.
Of course, if a mouse or moth got into the house, that might be more likely to tantalize her.

(3,010 posts)There was some novel curiosity towards it from my cats, but they ignore it now. Our two male cats got more mileage out of a ping-pong ball toy, but it didn't provide them with a lot of exercise. You might want to try a laser pointer or some sort of fishing lure type of toy. I think the best way to get your cat moving is going to involve you more than one of these things. I would save your money and skip the flopping fish toy. Anyway, that's my two cents. Whatever you get, I hope that you and your cat do well!

(59,635 posts)I've bought her every type of toy I could find & attempted to engage her. No go on any of them.
I did order 1 & some high quality Japanese silvervine. Hoping she is in the 80% who experience a stimulant effect! 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
Ty for sharing!
Really wishing she was more active. I would love to get her a kitty treadmill wheel, but I know she would never move just for the sake of exercise.

(20,987 posts)When it's not moving (and hasn't moved for a while) he'll rub up against it for the catnip, but he's not all that keen on running/jumping at it.
Most successful exerciser in our household is a cat dancer or fishing pole toy with a human on the other end, near a staircase.
helpfully,

(59,635 posts)I've tried every type of toy imaginable, all to no avail.
I'm always "rewarded with a "Don't infantalize me!" Look. 😓
She is now well over 16 lbs & absolutely demands to eat about every 3 hrs. I try to stretch out feedings, not only to reduce caloric intake, but to increase activity.
She starts opening & slamming cabinet doors, shoving things off tables, etc., etc. when she wants food.
One vet thought she was depressed, so she rxd compounded transdermal meds to rub on ears. That had no effect.
I've ordered the fish, as she is a "kucker-type" of kitty. Also ordered high quality Japanese silvervine powder. I'll make hot water & put powder in, then funnel into squirt bottle to spray a few times / week. I hope it works! 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
I'm very hopeful she will prove to be in the reported 80% who experience a stimulant effect from the Japanese silvervine. I'd never heard of it before.
Thx again!
