person be with him/her? Let the cat come to you. If the cats person isn’t going to be there, ask them for advice. Of course take care of the cats needs like feeding and cleaning its litter box. The cat will be curious possibly or maybe a bit scared. With time, he or she will relax. I am sure there is much more information people could give you. Anybody got more ideas to give Crackling Charlie?

I have met kitty briefly before. He is a cool cat. Quite a vocal guy.

I have fixed up a closet with a blanket, and a litter box, with food and water dishes nearby. I thought the closet would be good, so he could have privacy if he got worried. I pushed the bed under the window, because his dad (my cousin) said he likes to look out the window.

I was thinking about hanging some toys from the clothes rod. Would that be dangerous?

Thanks for the suggestions.

the nasty litter will get into his food, water, and bedding when he scratches to cover his poop and urine.

The litter box is the most confusing thing for me. I put the box inside the closet for privacy. The bowls are outside the closet.
Would he want more privacy when littering or eating? Should I switch them?

Thanks so much for your help. This is gonna be interesting.

his human take him to the litter box so he'll know where it is. Maybe take him more than once.

You will want it to be easy for him to locate and get to--not on another floor, for example, since he doesn't know your house.

I keep my cats' food bowls in the kitchen. Once the cat adjusts and is comfortable coming out from hiding, he won't need privacy to eat. In fact, one of my cats wants me to sit with her while she eats. As for sleeping, as long as he has a soft, comfortable place, he will be fine. My cats sleep on my bed with me, but if you place blankets somewhere, the cat will be fine.

Like him first. I'm convinced cats understand when being told(sincerely) how beautiful and wonderful they are.

I posted here recently about my horrible experience when my kitty had to be euthanized. I miss her so much. For all my life I have had a cat to keep me company. All lived to be a ripe old age.

I am too old to adopt another furry friend. I worry what would happen if my health goes down hill. Sure miss my lap companion, my supervisor as I made the bed, my companion as I did my daily activities.
I love these posts, they make me smile as I realize how much joy these great kitties bring.

Thanks to Siwsan for the daily posts. I smile and reminisce.

fostering cats? Especially fostering would offer companionship without lifetime commitment and you
would be doing an important service. Also adopting senior cats that are hard to adopt but really need
to loved also fulfills an important need in our society. Many cats are displaced when their owners die
and are desperate for homes.

Not wanting to take on the responsibility of kittens, I adopted an older feral five years ago,
and she has been an awesome companion who really needed at her age to come in from the cold.

But every day she's seeming to be a little less skittish spending more time out and about, instead of hiding under the kitchen table.

I'll just keep working on gaining her trust.

Oh, and there is the tiny factor of me and Arthur absolutely falling in love with that stubborn but incredibly cute little creature.

She is starting to follow me around the house. Maybe she's just keeping her eye on me. At meal times she's totally under foot and meowing away for her food.

The days she FINALLY hops up on my lap, or even just the chair I'm sitting in, I have no doubt I will melt into a pool of 'SQUEEE' goo.
