Many of them have been attained by theft, sold for peanuts after an unsuccessful track career, or BLM animals that had the misfortune to be, "adopted," by the wrong people. Most are just discarded, sold to the highest bidder at auction. People that think animals are disposable. The meat is often shipped to Europe, where it is still commonly eaten.

We are aghast at the dog meat trade in parts of Asia. Horses deserve our same empathy, and for the same reasons.
