(15,359 posts)loud as a freakin' table saw! They put a good electric motor in those. I never replaced it. I don't eat much out of cans, and most have pull tops these days anyway.

(9,693 posts)Just died recently. Got a $6 manual one from Amazon that works fine.
Our cats dont like wet food although Im always trying new kinds because the vet said its better for them (especially Charlie who weighs 19 lbs.) I keep the dry food in Tupperware and the second they hear the container opening theyre in the kitchen.

(31,436 posts)It had to be replaced this year. In the past, I used it to call the cat. If she heard the sound of the can opener, she came running from whatever dimension cats hide in when they do not want to be found.

(35,772 posts)my folks had one while I was growing up, and the cats always came running every time they heard it and were so obnoxious when the can wasn't for them. Then, one year, my mom got an electric can opener in an office Christmas exchange. (?) Anyway, it made a different sound, so she began using that for human food and kept the old one for cat food. They never reacted to the new one because there was no payoff, lol.

(11,827 posts)So who was the culprit who unplugged the can opener? Sounds like me when I used to travel a lot and encountered airport and other bathrooms with automatic faucets that came on when you put your hands under them. I would do the same with my home faucets for a couple of days and wonder why they werent working!

(9,471 posts)Can openers is just one example.
Another is paper towel dispensers and hand dryers.
I'm sure we can think of more.
