Spooked By Fireworks In Texas, TV Journalist's Beloved Dog Found 7 Years Later... In Florida
t's being called a Christmas miracle.
Earlier this month, Orlando, Florida shelter Orange County Animal Services responded to an abandoned dog call. When they arrived at a local hotel, they found an Australian Shepherd that could barely walk and immediately worried about the older animal being adopted. People love puppies and small dogs, the shelter reminded, but not so much seniors.
Luckily, the dog was microchipped. Shelter staff tracked down the information and were able to locate the pet's owners in Texas.
When we called them, we gave them the surprise of a lifetime, the shelter shared on Facebook. You see, Jazzy was 12 years old, and she had been five years old when she had gotten spooked by Independence Day fireworks and run away.
The family was unable to find her anywhere, it continued. They searched for her for a long time, and even after seven years, they never gave up hope.
The story of a dog miraculously reunited Dec. 10 with its owners after being found 1,100 miles away is tailor-made for the holidays. National media coverage has included the CBS Evening News and People magazine.
And for Dallas-Fort Worth NBC affiliate KXAS-TV, there is an extra twist. The dog belongs to one of their own staff, videographer Kerry Smith.
