Related: About this forumNow the kitchen is a comfortable zone for Carys
Of course, she associates it with eating, so no surprise. But until recently she was still very skittish in that room.
Now I have zero problem picking her up in the kitchen. She snuggles in for some kisses and scritches and when I put her back down, she doesn't race off. This morning, while I filled the food bowls, she curled herself around my ankle and looked up at me with the sweetest expression.
And if by some chance I see an opportunity to pick her up elsewhere in the house, she doesn't exactly relax but she also doesn't struggle to get away.
I'm wondering if her behavior will modify, even more, after she's spayed. Two weeks from today, at right about this time, I should be picking her up from the vet's office. Not yet sure how I will curtail any rough housing. I might have to keep her in the guest room for a couple of days.

(24,729 posts)She retained her spirited personality, but was more inclined to snuggle (still on her terms) and became more trusting of strangers. (Except for the vet and staff, whom she blamed as the cause of her physical discomfort and the indignity of being probed and handled. She has never forgiven them.)
I didn't have to worry about other cats rough housing with her, but I did put away a few of her toys that she tended to get really exuberant with. Only for a few days.
