so I could take this pic. Its rare that she holds still
life with a border collie. They are busy.
Hope everyone is having a day of peace and tranquility. 🎄

Once had a dentist named Dr. Maybee when I was a child in the sixties.

(24,034 posts)I named her after a character in Arrested Development. Also, Maybe it was nuts that I got another corner collie at my age. She keeps me moving and active, thats for sure.

(24,430 posts)Border collies have been my favorite dog ever since I had one several years ago. I like other dogs, too, but border collies have the #1 canine place in my heart.

(24,034 posts)Ive always had them when I lose one, I honestly miss the chaos and the antics. Maybee got me up 5 times night before last only to run like a rocket around the backyard nothing more, just needed to go nuts. I was exhausted yesterday. Last night she slept all night. No rhyme or reason to it. Bonkers.

(24,430 posts)but he definitely was a character. He was mostly my dog. My husband got a Beagle-Bassett mix who was a 2 year old stray. Very hard to housebreak and teach house rules to, so the border collie monitored him and ratted him out to us whenever the hound broke the rules. LOL.
The hound was also an escape artist from our fenced in yard so the border collie ran after him to round him up.
His incredible intelligence and vocabulary, plus ability to read body language and assess context made me feel like he was a mind reader. He was always in sync with us but also made his own independent judgments when necessary.
To top it off, he had a beautiful shaded sable and white coat that resembled a shorter haired version of Lassie.
I was much younger then and able to keep up with his energy level. Doubt that I could do that today.

(8,627 posts)I just wanna give that Maybee a big hug. How's your weather today? Can you get out the door? It's raining here, of all things. Hope you're having a most Merry Christmas!
MontanaMama
(24,034 posts)After 3 days of -20 and wind howling like a banshee. We had the whole family in the driveway moving the snowdrifts because we knew the rain was coming. Glad we did it because there would be no moving it today. I hope youre having a lovely Christmas
glad the storm has passed us both.

(907 posts)He is black and white. Noha, before Booger was tri-colored. Noha lived to be 17 and we loved him well. Booger is a time keeper. He will not allow my husband to sleep past 6:30 am. And announces supper time, for them, bone time, clean water time. Bone time again,
(has to be at least 2 bones) Then bed time. Then it just repeats, day after day. I love border collies. I really don't deserve them.

(10,907 posts)I once had a half Border named Sam. Couldn't keep him when we moved into the city for obvious reasons. Gave him to a friend of (unlamented) first husband's parents. They had seven kids and lived on 5 acres in the country. They taught him to round up the kids at dinner time, among his other chores. If Border Collies don't have a job, they will invent one, and you may not like the one they invent.

(24,034 posts)Were working on herding chickens right now but the chickens dont come out of the coop in winter so thats more difficult at the moment. Mostly we play frisbee. Maybee only weIghs 34lbs so when she jumps, she is airborne she absolutely flies.

(25,936 posts)the chickens! We swear he would count them once he got them in their yard to make sure he collected them all!
I really notice those special skills, as our beloved current dog - a Chow Aussie mix - looks at me like I'm crazy when I ask him to help with it!
😅
MontanaMama
(24,034 posts)The chickens wont be herded in winter so we have to wait for spring to get back to that. The puzzles keep her entertained and busy. When our lab became acquainted with the dog puzzles, she looked at us like we were insane but slowly but surely she is showing interest in them. When Mabes is bored, she sits in front of the closet where the puzzles live and politely asks for one. The differences in dogs is amazing.

(25,936 posts)I've been hearing about puzzles for dogs. At first it seemed strange, but I bet it mimics their feral
condition and staves off boredom of highly domesticated life! Keeps them mentally healthier.
There's a lot of awareness around this for horses nowadays.
