Vetco screwed me out of $100 for my cat's vaccines

Vetco is an inexpensive vet service thru Petco, in case some don't know.

We rescued a kitten on Thanksgiving. We brought him in for his first series of vaccines in mid-Dec, including feline leukemia. We brought him back 4 weeks later for his boosters.

Last week, I brought him to his permanent vet to get checked out before his neuter appointment in a month. They looked at his records and realized that Vetco missed his leukemia booster, because it's not documented anywhere. So now, we need to redo his initial and booster shots because you need to give the booster within 4 weeks of the initial shot. That will cost a total of $130, on top of his neuter.

I called to complain to Vetco, and they refunded me......$27. That's a joke. I'm pretty pissed right now, all thanks to their mistake.

How much did you originally pay for the feline leukemia, and did the kitten actually Wingus Dingus Feb 2023 #1

get it? Edit to add: I guess I'm confused--if your kitty never received the shots but have a receipt that shows you paid for them, then they should refund that without question if they don't have the date/lot/serial number/brand etc. that is usually documented on the record. If kitty didn't receive the shots and you didn't pay for them...then you just won 27 dollars.

And I was billed for it.

On his subsequent visit, he didn't get the booster shot because Vetco screwed up. I wasn't charged for the booster, but without it, the first shot is worthless.

So the $27 refund was for the first shot, which I feel is woefully lacking. Their failure means I need to pay a different vet to redo the initial and booster, which will be a total of $130, AND my time and effort driving the 30 minutes each way to the vet's office (we live in the country).

Vetco had to eat the cost of that, so at least you got some compensation for their screw-up--I must say $130 for two vaccinations seems like a lot at your regular vet, yikes. I would honestly have been surprised if Vetco reimbursed you for driving costs and inconvenience. I'm not sure anyone does that. But don't let it bug you, enjoy your sweet new kitten!
