(92,451 posts)I know several dogs and "NO!" is merely a suggestion with most of them.

(1,230 posts)no spray bottle needed. My Molly (Good Golly!) is a 10 year old solid black (except for her graying muzzle) pittie who learned many lessons on her own before we rescued each other ~9years ago.
Husbands brother (lets call him Jerry) came to visit while we were clearing out the house of my father in law after his death. Brother brought 4 steaks, claiming Arkansas beef is superior. Jerry anointed the steaks with who knows what, left them on the edge of the counter, then went outside to smoke a cigarette. Came back in and started cussing 🤬 about a missing steak.
Molly was playing possum in her travel kennel and never confessed to any crime, but she obviously wanted to test the superiority of Arkansas beef.😂 Come on, Jerry, you left them unattended on the counters edge! Whos the dummy here?
She hasnt done anything like that at home that Ive noticed but I did find a lime buried in her bed this morning. Dreaming of Margaritaville?
Four foots. Gotta love em.

(34,536 posts)Loved to run off and if you called her name and said ,Come! She would just stand there and smirk at you as if to say You cant be serious! and then run away some more.
Although she might have come back for a blueberry donut

(24,119 posts)We have to tell him no, very firmly several times, and he will stop his loud and incessant barking. However, if there are actually people moving outside, it takes a few efforts. Then when he obeys, he complains and whines and grumbles about it under his breath as he's laying on the couch. IF he wasn't so sweet, smart and funny, he'd be a true pain in the ass. He gets crazy at times, but guess that fits in with the rest of us.

(5,264 posts)at least dogs make some attempt at understanding sometimes. rather, most times.
but they get in the zone over somethings and words just become background noise

(503 posts)that there was no hearing without eye contact. No hearing, no command and certainly no "No".
