Related: About this forumLawrence just quoted this about Trump's dislike of dogs:
"Any man who does not like dogs and want them about does not deserve to be in the White House."
- Calvin Coolidge
I agree.

(52,216 posts)I am certain that any dog, from Great Dane to Chihuahua, would bite him in the balls within 1 hour of being it that asshole's care.
The film "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood" has a scene where the dog bites the Manson murderer Tex Watson in the nuts and wouldn't let go. I imagine that is what tRump is afraid of. Go, dogs, GO!

(1,866 posts)No question. And I would be suspicious of someone who truly disdains them. But a love of dogs is no guarantee of compassion towards other people. Hitler loved dogs. Some very obnoxious people dote on their pets and treat other humans like crap. The Nazis outlawed animal experimentation because they thought it was barbaric.

Thanks for this reminder.

(24,145 posts)Dogs size up people pretty quickly. I'm sure dogs dislike trump even more than he hates them. Their eyes can look into your soul, and they see he has none.
I'm sure they can sense the malevolence in him.
Hope your beautiful Chloe & Duke are doing well.

(8,439 posts)From a daily visit to an assisted living center through covid, a furry four-legged partner made it all possible. My biggest wish is that he out lives me. I'll never be able to bury him.

(12,542 posts)He was a great dog, and got along with people just fine. We found him on the street on Christmas day, we tried to catch him but he ran away. Months later we ended up with him.
I had a friend I knew from high school. He was a bit of a loner, and had a dark sidethe kind that people enjoy his company, but felt a little uncomfortable around him sometimes.
I threw a party for my wife years ago, and that friend was invited and showed up a little later. He came in the house and I gave him a big greeting. We spoke for a bit, then my dog walked up to him and started growling. My friend got annoyed and said, "Stupid dog."
That pup of mine NEVER growled at anyone before. I would have to guess my friend didn't like dogs and our dog detected it.

(27,261 posts)For most of our childhood my mother wouldn't allow pets. Then a neighbor offered us a tiny, tiny puppy. Some sort of terrier mix. We named her Maxine and my pet disliking mother absolutely fell in love.
Later, after she developed Alzheimer's, she was convinced that my brothers big orange snuggle bug tabby, named Dude, was a dog. She LOVED Dude.

(7,504 posts)Everyone in my family has a dog or 2. I would also but because of physical problems, I can't walk the dog. I have had cats for years and they are a joy to me. I recently lost my last kitty 3 months ago and I miss her. No matter, cats or dogs, the are wonderful friends and companions.
