I use a Tidy Cat system that uses pellets as versus litter that is sand-like. So along with my regular auto-ship, I order the pellets. The Tidy Cat system is a great system -- only have to change the pellets once a month and there is a tray under the box that holds disposable pads for urine and the pad gets changed as needed. The urine flows through the pellets and the pellets do not absorb the urine. They also remain odor free. No mess, no smell, a lot less bother. A small shovel to pick up deposits on the pellets and that gets flushed away immediately. (Litter box is in my bathroom.) No clumps of poo covered with sand to dispose of. The pellets for the most part do not cling to the poo and the few that cling can be flushed away in the john along with the kitty poo. A small shovel comes with the system and it works to pick up the poo, but the shovel allows the pellets to fall through slits.

My bestie is a cat person and she turned me on to this system. I inherited a cat (my first cat ever and I am in my 70s) when a friend passed away. I tried every kind of electric litter box, sand-like litter and hated all of it. What a frickin' mess!!! My bathroom was like a walk on the beach with so much sand! Then raking the sand and trying to get the clumps into a bag? Ugh!!!!! But, once I got the system that uses only pellets and pads, no problems any more with having a litter box in my house. The cat seems to like it as well. He's an elderly cat (approx 19 years) and until the pellet system, he always used a litter box with sand-like litter. Took to the pellet box like a champ.

The initial cost of the system is kind of high and the pellets are about $8/bag for the months supply, but I find that it is less work and bother. I stoppled using the pads that are designed for the system -- a bit on the expensive side -- and just buy generic pet pads and fold them to fit the tray that slides into the bottom of the box.

The cats hated it and started pooping outside of the litter boxes. We go with scoopable litter from Costco, which is messier, but the cats prefer it. House policy is the cats get whatever they want.

My kitty is old, so I make special food for him. Looks like pate. He will ONLY eat what I make for him and he turns up his nose at just "store" bought kitty food.

My gentleman friend was raiding my fridge and he pulled out what looked like a container of pate. I got to him just before he put the cracker with cat food in his mouth!

He learned that the container with the blue top was cat food and the container with the pink top was home made dog food. Cat is male; dog is female. The different colored tops keep me from mixing up who gets what! (Although the dog would LOVE to have what is in the blue topped container!)

Of course, cats can be very opinionated creatures, when it comes to what they want in their litter boxes, and I know some of them absolutely will not use Breeze. I tried it with Logan, the cat we had before Willow, and he was NOT having it. Willow took right to it, though, and I'm glad because it makes my life a lot easier.

It's pricier than I would like, but I can swing it for now, thank goodness. I need to look into those generic pads you mentioned when it's time to restock. I recently stocked up on the Breeze ones, so it will be a while.
