cats that never got used to, as you say, intruders into their space/home. I think if your home is busy with people in and out a lot, they get used to strangers. We have very few people in and out of our home so they would always hide. The first cat we had in 1987 was different-she never saw a stranger.

Madoc and Arthur were around LOTS of people from the time they were 4 and 3 weeks old. Although I have no knowledge of Gryff's background, I'm pretty sure he was with a family and then dumped because he CLUNG to me the first time I picked him up. He was a little shy of other people, at first, but gradually started warming up. Now he's a cuddle bug with pretty much everyone who comes over.

My 14-year-old cat has never gotten used to people in the house - she hides if anyone comes in. It might be because I don't have guests very often - I'm old, few friends, no relatives nearby, house is too small for entertaining, so about the only other people she ever sees are various sorts of repairmen - plumbers, electricians, etc. Last winter I had quite a bit of interior painting done by someone I know quite well, and he was in the house almost every day for months. After many weeks she came out of hiding long enough to stand at a distance and stare balefully at him, but he was never able to get close enough to pet her. She behaves pretty well at the vet and doesn't usually try to claw anybody's face off but she doesn't like people in her house. She loves me, though. Carys might warm up to visitors if you have them often, but if she doesn't, at least she loves you.

When company comes, Andy is in the thick of it, getting scritches, making himself at home on the dining room table. The whole family is “cat people” so this doesn’t freak anyone out.
Charlie hides upstairs on our bed and comes out the minute people leave, meowing and wanting to cuddle with me. The boys are 7 so I think they won’t change.

I will keep my distance. My comfort zone will make me happy 😊 or so says Carys.

My little rescue guy does not like anybody in his space except for me. He does not even like voices outside. He has been indoors now for seven years, so I doubt things will change. But he is THE BESTEST cuddle buddy!
