cheap pet treats.
so, i love my dehydrator. i have worked several to death in my time.
when miss hot lips got here, i had an over supply of free range eggs. so i hard boiled them, sliced them up, and put them in the dehydrator. the whites get crunchy, but the yolks stay soft.
she loved them, but got picky. she didnt want to take the time to chew the whites. so i started just breaking them up so i could pick which part to give her. if she was in her crate, she liked the crunchy parts.
i also got rid of my chickens, starting w taking the boys and the old girls to the butcher. a doz in all.
i froze a few whole, cut up a few and made stock, and cooked a few, and froze them in parts.
i cooked up all the organs, and i stripped the bits of meat off the bones when the stock was done. even the feet. those make a great chewy for crate time.
you end up w a variety of tastes and textures which this smart girl appreciates.
all rly great healthy treats basically free. she does get bored, and likes anything new.
despite being a spoiled carnivore, she loves french fries. any leftover fries i have i put by where the papers are for a potty treat. if i have a lot, ill dry them.
i ordered the kinda gross cheese fries the other night so i could share them w her. i let them get cold, stirred them around to coat, and dried. omg she died for them.
but any old leftovers work. i had some tortellini i wasnt going to use, and tossed that in. came out a fluffy, crunchy bite that she loved.
its only a matter of how hard it will be to clean the racks when youre done.
i got my 1st couple machines at the thrift store, but i kept working them to death so ive bought a couple better ones. was hoping to do a good size solar one at my farm, but not gonna happen.
but as spendy as good treats are, its a worthwhile investment.
