Look what I just found on the back deck

One VERY spicy little kitten. There were 3 ferals in the yard (Scooter, Skittish and Tabby) and none seemed bothered that I was sitting by this sweetie. It was by the makeshift shelter so maybe that's where it's been. The weather has been so miserable, I haven't been doing much outdoor work, until today.

It has very runny eyes, which concerns me. I'll keep watch to see if I can figure this out.

The whole Halloween Cat behavior. The eyes are still blue so it is very young.

I have to run a quick errand and then I'm going to snoop around.

I think it's Tabby, who NEVER looked pregnant but then maybe she's just weird and only had one.

I'm sure the kitten is just hunched, tail tucked as a defense mechanism. When he/she forgot I was there, they became relaxed and looked fine, except for the eyes. Space Boy had a HORRIBLE eye infection and big bald patch before I caught him and his sisters. By that time, both had cleared up.

I'll just have to see if I can gain some trust, over the next few days, and hopefully do a vet run.

We just discovered there are groups who spay and neuter feral cats - trap and release - for free!

I found a place but I have to take a TNR class and then it's $20 each. Otherwise it's $45.

I put out a dish of pate and the mom gobbled it down. Now I'm trying to figure out if it is Skittish or Tabby, because they look so much alike. They were both out there when I was sitting close to the kitten.

They are smart to harbor in your back yard. Word must have gotten out about how much you care for them.
You are such a good kitty mama, Siwsan. The universe thanks you.

Try to keep its eyes cleaned out, so they don't get stuck shut. They need to drain. If you can take it to the vet, they can probably get the little thing some meds.

We used to be able to get boric acid powder in the drug store, make a weak solution, and at least get their eyes cleared up. But my dear vet said that they needed help with the respiratory infection.

I haven't seen boric acid in years. My Mom used it if we kids had eye infections.

Good luck with your kitties

I think it's a boy and he's pretty young. I'm going to make a point of putting food in front of the shelter, when I don't see any other ferals in the back yard.

Tomorrow I'm going to be breaking up a bunch of small limbs into a yard waste bag so I'll be close to the deck. Maybe he will come out to see what's going on. I can also see the deck from the living room window and I have a motion detecting camera I can use.

Clean his eyes everyday, when you catch him, and put some Terramycin in them. I get it at Tractor Supply. It is good to have on hand because you can use it for about every kind of critter with eye infections (cats, dogs, goats, horses, chickens).

Good luck!
