I am out of town for work and my wife had to put her down. She had taken a sudden turn for the worse this morning. My office will never be the same.
Greta was my 4th Shepherd, and they have all been wonderful dogs, each in their own way. I look forward to seeing then all again one day.
It just won't be heaven without dogs..
Update:
A day later and I've lost another furry friend. My rescue beagle StanLee has gone home to be with his big friend Greta. I hope my week gets better.

(52,269 posts)Many, many people who have had Near Death Experiences see their pets when they die and so do people who are in hospice care. I am an Atheist but I KNOW I will be with my dogs when I die. I have had, and continue to have, "visits" from my dog who died almost 3 years ago. I have seen her and my dad together right after she died and my dad had died the previous year. It was so wonderful and comforting. I can not wait to join them. I look forward to it every day...that is how real my experiences have been. No doubt in my mind anymore. Our pets are certainly going to be with us again and it'll be happy and joyous.

(52,269 posts)and am sort of envious. One lady said she saw her cat (who had just passed away) moving around its toys and her husband was right there and saw it too. Verification!

It wouldn't be heaven without cats, too. And otters. And chipmunks. And....

(6,493 posts)I still cry thinking about my Shepard mix rescue, Maya, who we had to put down on Fathers Day 3 years ago.
She was the smartest damn dog I ever came across. I miss her terribly

(10,838 posts)They take a piece of our heart with them when they go. When we reunite with them our hearts are once again whole. German Shepherd Dogs are amazing but then all dogs are and kitties too.

I am so very sorry for the loss of your precious Greta. Their leaving leaves such holes in our hearts. I know she will be watching over you.
