Got it Tuesday last week and started taking Vincent.
I think he might have been spooked by a bigger dog when he was a baby, and was REALLY reluctant. Running behind me, tail between legs...
I've taken him each of the last 4 days, 8 of 10.
Yesterday & today he started running with the other dogs. Not cowering, not running away. Chasing, being chased.
Still not ready to roughhouse, but I think he'll get there.
Oh and, HE'S REALLY FAST! None of the dogs out there can catch him from behind, and if he's chasing it's a matter of seconds before he passes them.
Our other dogs were lumbering doofuses. Vincent can MOVE!
We're really happy he's getting used to interacting.

(69,879 posts)It's a huge county, in area, and about 700,000 people.
There are 6 or 7 dog parks spread out around the county.
There's a free one in a town 10-12 miles away. If my wife goes, we go that one, because the walk from parking to the park is only 20 or 30 feet.
At the county place, it's nearly 200 yards.
But, it's way closer to home. Under 3 miles. And, it's MUCH bigger.
The permit is issued after proof of vaccinations, so it's health safe. They give us a card on a lanyard we're supposed to wear.
It's $40 a year, with 10 bucks off for seniors.
So, thirty a year.
They take good care of it. Doggie water fountain, pavillion & benches, and cast iron grills just outside the fence.
It's a real nice place.

(69,879 posts)He looks like a black lab, but he's got the spotted paws of the Aussie Cattledog they know is in there. Everyone who sees him thinks he's a black lab.
He's fully grown at just under 70#, but he's really tall.
I can pet him on the head without bending down at all.
This is Vincent in the kitchen after getting caught rummaging in the garbage after mom was making banana bread.

(24,397 posts)I wish there was an indoor equivalent for cats. I live in an apartment building that only allows 1 dog or cat. So my cat, Ember, gets no feline companionship. She used to enjoy playing in the hallway with a neighbor's dog, a Shih Tzu, but they moved away.
Yesterday, some maintenance people were doing some work in my apartment so I took the cat outdoors in her carrier to get out of their way. I set the carrier on a bench and had a book with me to read. Several people out walking their dogs stopped to check out the cat. She loved the attention, especially when a little half Chihuahua/half Pomeranian took a real liking to her and hopped onto the bench to touch noses with her through the carrier gate. She purred at him.
If there was an indoor place for cats, with cat trees, toys, water, etc. and permits with vaccination requirements, I'd take her there. But there's nothing like that around here. I think that it would need a supervising employee, too, to check permits and supervise the people as well as the cats.

(69,879 posts)We have 2 kitties, too.
It would fun to take them to somewhere like you envision.
Especially cool for city dwellers or people like us who don't let the cats go outside.
