Related: About this forumTerrible news about our furbaby Lily.
Our sweet lily cat has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. She is almost 16 and began showing a lesion on her butt some weeks ago and we took her to the vet and they told us it may only be an infected anal gland and they prescribed antibiotics. After the meds ran out, and it was worse, we took her back in and the prescribed more antibiotics and scheduled a biopsy for last Thursday.
The biopsy was very hard on her and we got her a puffy flower shaped cone so she could be more comfortable. The results came back Wedneday as positive and it is a rare cancer mostly found in dogs. We could see a specialist but they said it may not do any good and would probably require reconstructive surgery as well.
She gets the stitches out Thursday and we will talk with the vet about how to make her comfortable for her last days.
She still really likes her food and treats and we are giving her all the love and attention she can soak up.
I am so sad. Even though she is my sister's fur baby...who appeared on her doorstep as a kitten...she always seeks me out for attention.
I'll try to post photos soonest.
My heart aches.

(644 posts)This is the most difficult decision as pet owners that we face. It is important that we always keep there quality of life at the forefront when making this decision. Shower her with love, throw her dietary restrictions in the trash and give her her favorites. Stay positive as best you can and know that we all feel and share your pain. She will.be waiting for you on the other side.

(7,105 posts)they did not offer treatment. I had just gone through chemo myself and agreed. They gave us some steroids to keep her comfy until we were ready to bring her back. I gave her the first dose in her favorite vanilla ice cream. That is all she ate until we took her in. She was smart and made her last days tasty.
I do not regret it.

I'm guessing everybody here has walked this road at one time or more. DU people seem to love having fur babies in their lives.
We're here if you need sympathy or empathy. Our dear Skittles once said "someone's always here" and it never seems to matter what hour, day, or timezone.
Love her as long as you're lucky enough to have her around. I remember when we had a kitty that lived to 19, and she just started going downhill, and it went pretty fast. And so did she. We could tell she did not like the condition she was imprisoned by. When she finally passed, we were actually relieved for her. It had been a rough exit. We'll never forget her, and I'm glad we took photos of her, cuz at least we still have those.

I hope Lily has a lot of good time left.
