Related: About this forumMiss Moppet crossed the Rainbow Bridge yesterday morning.
Even with two prescription appetite stimulants and I tried to encourage her to eat and it just wasn't happening. She wasn't getting any quality of sleep either, always changing spots and trying to get comfortable, and unfortunately her labored breathing wasn't getting any better. She was essentially starving to death.
Our veterinarian told us it was the progression of her chronic kidney disease that she had for several years and we all decided that it was time to end her suffering.
Moppet lived life her way and wouldn't conform to any silly human disturbances. She wasn't a lap kitty and she wasn't comfortable being petted, touched or carried unless it was on her terms. Petting was allowed at the food dish only. She would communicate with us by rubbing on our leg that she was ready to eat, or sit with her back to us telling her humans that she was ready to do something. Usually that something was telling us that it was time to go to bed.
There was a time that I use to talk to her to her in a normal toned voice and she would literally growl at me. Then I started using a higher pitch with some baby talk; she responded extremely well to that and with that our bond strengthened.
I would make balls out of pieces of aluminum foil and she would chase those balls and sometimes hit them back at me like she was playing hockey. We put in lots of playtime together in our years together.
19 years of bossing her human's around is along stretch for a cat.
Rest In Peace beautiful girl!

(25,685 posts)19 Years you both had each other. To let her go when it was her time, is truly a difficult decision. My girl is reaching 18 and I dread that day. I'm sorry Miss Moppet will no longer be in your life, but she will always be fond memories. All the best to you.

(9,565 posts)I took today off work just because I hardly ever take days off, but mostly I just needed a "me" day. I completed some deep cleaning in the home today and at the last minute went to the movies to watch Barbie.
I also reached out to my boss (who helps run a cat rescue) and sent them a screen shot of a completed a list of all of Moppet's prescription medications (thyroid, blood pressure, renal support powder plus food, and what was left of the appetite stimulants) and my boss said that could use those at their cat rescue.
I feel better knowing that these prescription medications don't have to be thrown away.
Much love to you all

(9,565 posts)I heard loud purring 3 different times Saturday evening, I haven't heard it since then.
I believe that Moppet was reminding me of all the prescriptions that we had.
