2 weeks ago, today, Dixie one of my cats slipped out. Her sister & I mis her dearly

I sent photos the neighbors, taped images of her the poles on the street , registered her with Pet FBI & cried a lot

I blame myself,I should have double checked the screen door.

Two weeks is not a long time though, by cat standards. I have one now that's been missing 3 months. I'm still hoping she'll show back up.

Don't give up yet.

9. Garages!

A neighbor came home from vacation, opened the garage door, and a very hungry cat stumbled out. (He was fine after some food and water and cuddles.)
He'd just been wandering around and walked into the garage just as the neighbor was backing out to go on vacation.

I had a wanderer! We thought he was gone forever, but then we were walking in the next neighborhood over, and saw him, and called to him. He looked at us with this dawning recognition... "Oh! I remember you!"
And he came over. he had a whole new family, and we ended up having to do a sort of joint custody.

That was one charming cat, I tell you.

Dixie might just be vacationing with another family, and will come back soon.

13. Some years back I had a cat who came with the house we bought

in Boulder, CO.

I figured out that she also had another family taking care of her, because of the way she'd be home for a few days, then gone for a few. One day I took a walk in the neighborhood, and saw her coming across someone's back yard. That house had a for sale/sold sign in front. After those people moved out, she never spent much time away from home again.

* Make flyers & hand out in your neighborhood

* Post the flyer on neighborhood facebook or Nextdoor groups

* Put your cats litterbox, food, toys etc outside. Cats have an amazing sense of smell & do not stray far, usually no further then @ 300 yards

* If you have other cats, record them on your phone & walk the neighborhood playing the video loudly, or play YouTube videos of cats meowing. Best time to do this is @ dusk. Search all small places, under decks, sheds, garages, etc

* Reach out to your local cat shelters to see if they have live traps that you can borrow. Only use live traps if the temperature is above freezing. Check the trap often. Bait the trap with your cats food & put items in the trap that have your cats scent. Please be aware that you may possibly catch opossums & skunks so have a plan to deal with them.

* Please be aware that your cat will run away from you. Even indoor cats will revert to the wild almost immediately as a means for survival.

* When you catch your cat, they will scratch you. Be prepared with gloves.

* Most importantly, keep the faith!
