I've been working on the boys trying to tame them.

We've had a heatwave here, so most of my work takes place in the early AM and the late PM.

This is what I saw when I was heading out this evening to engage the little men.

Nothing but pure grey from his skin to his precious little beans. His brother, Binx, is pure black. Beans and all. They both have those green/gold eyes and chiseled features.

They both won the gorgeous lottery.

He can give the sweetest, lovey eyes you've ever seen.

He's becoming a true little sweetie. After we play and he chews me to pieces he snugs up against my leg and purrs his heart out while I pet him. He's my easy one to woo.

His all black (otherwise identical brother) was almost named Zorro.

I ended up naming him Binx because I was a Sabrina the Teenage Witch fan in the 90's and he's my first all black kitty.

She knew to find me when she was dying of dehydration and hear while trying to keep her babies alive.

I still cannot believe how close it had to be to these two not surviving. She showed up while I was watering plants on my deck. She was truly nothing but skin and bones and could barely walk. I fed and watered her (were in a historic heatwave, so her dehydration was beyond normal) and noticed she'd been nursed, but was all dried up. I assumed the poor babies didn't survive the harsh environment she'd been forced to endure.

The water was a miracle for her. The next day she was there when I went out and had milk. I felt terrible thinking I'd just barely missed the window to save her babies! Then the next day I saw where she was being nursed! It appeared there were 2 kittens based on her nipples and the ones drained. I kept feeding, watering and loving her (she's 100% tame and domesticated) and next thing I know she shows up at my back door with these two little angels! They couldn't eat real food yet then, but due to her health I supplement with kitten milk mixed in canned food and here we are today!

She goes in next week to be spayed, tested for FIV and fully vaccinated. If all goes well I hope to be able to bring her (and the Dudes) in with the rest of my 3 kitties after that. They'll be neutered next month or the month after (per my finances) and vaccinated.

Lady Bast works as well as any other solution. I'm still grateful the fates pooled together this one moment in time.

I was mourning the loss of the kittens and kicking my butt for not somehow finding her sooner those first couple of days. While I was glad I was able to save her, my heart hurt badly thinking of their demise. How it must have impacted her since she'd literally almost killed herself trying to keep them alive. I had horrible nightmares.

I should have realized something was up when she'd let me love on her but ran when I tried to hold or bring her inside. I'm a novice at outside feral kittens, though. These are my very first. My vet has been an incredible resource in all of this since then. She's truly amazing.

I've learned so much in the past couple of months. Next time, if this ever happens again, I'll be more prepared.

I've been a rescue mom in training since the moment the mommy showed up looking pitifully.

They've all been teaching me the ropes ever since.

Soon mommy gets spayed, vaccinated and tested for FIV. Then, hopefully, I can bring them all in and were a huge happy kitty family. I think I can lure the boys in now, and I've never had a feral test postitive here for FIV, so it's most likely we're about to be good. 🤞

He was kind of being a tiny bit of a toot, which considering his history melts my heart.

He's beginning to know he's loved. We have a ways to go, but he's easing into it by inches.
