Related: About this forumI have such sad news to share. Tudor just passed away.
He was OK this morning. As the day went on he got quieter and sleepier. Unfortunately there are NO emergency vet clinics open on the weekend in this whole county!!!
I have been sitting with him, all afternoon, giving him liquids and holding him. About 10 minutes ago I knew he was gone.
I did everything I could and have no idea what caused his death. Maybe his mother sensed something I didn't. and that's why she neglected him.
The one thing I can say I'm grateful for is that I gave him one week of life he wouldn't otherwise have had.
And I am crushed beyond repair.
Thank all of you who were such a part of his short existence on this earth.

You gave him a great week.

(6,601 posts)I've lost an occasional kitten to "fading kitten" syndrome, a couple from my house cats and 4 more feral rescue kittens. My dear, Siwsan, as sad as these deaths are, nothing can be done about them. The term given to kittens dying between birth and when theyre weaned is fading kittens. Hypothermia Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and Dehydration are common causes, especially with feral kitties. You were doing the right things, but they don't always work. My heart goes out to you, but the final care you gave Tudor was all you could do in this case.
Safe crossing of the Rainbow Bridge, Baby Tudor. You were loved while you were here.

(2,206 posts)You did all you could for sweet little Tudor. Kittens are so fragile and sometimes they don't make it for a variety of reasons.
I know you are heart sick, but at least you made a mighty effort to save him. And that matters.
Please take care of yourself.

(120,836 posts)You did everything you could - but even if a vet had been available it wouldn't have made a difference for a fading kitten. Sadly, it just happens. You gave him love and comfort while you had him and that's everything.

(3,804 posts)I know you are beside yourself with heart break. Poor little fellow. You are right, you gave him every comfort, nutrition and fluids and love for the week. You are so kind and generous, a true advocate for the kittens that are born without homes.
Poor little guy, probably had a physical impairment that caused him to not thrive like his siblings. Take care of you, and your own cats.
You are a blessing to all of them. May little Tudor R.I.P.

(92,684 posts)When you said he was lethargic this morning I had a bad feeling. I didn't want to say anything, I could have had that feeling for no reason.
I'm so sad, you had so much hope for him after all that you both had gone through.
Snuggle close to your other babies tonight. Maybe they knew too.

(9,691 posts)Got worried when you mentioned he was covered with fleas. I lost a kitten years ago to what the vet called flea anemia - a severe allergy to flea bites that an older cat can survive but not a young kitten. What a crushing loss! Give all your fur babies big hugs.

(23,417 posts)important role!! Tudor was SO fortunate to have you during his short time on earth. When you described his behavior this morning, I feared he was leaving us. I suspect he was born with failure of a vital organ. Years ago I had a little one who began screaming late at night. Since he was such a greedy guts, I made him a bottle. He emphatically refused it, which for him was an alarm. I whisked him up and raced to the emergency vet, a five minute drive, rubbing him in my lap. He was still alive when I handed him over, but they immediately told me he was gone. Based on what I don't know... they did draw some blood...
They thought his pancreas had failed. He was only a few weeks old, but I had his future mapped out, he was such a doll. Thank God I still had his brother to take care. I still had a purpose. Having your other little ones will be your biggest help. RIP Tudor... we all loved you!

(280 posts)I lurk on your threads because you are always positive and helping those who are ignored by most of our society. Let me say this LOUD AND PROUD to you. **YOU** gave him so much more in that short time than fate was going to give him. That extra week of love, of living, of just being a cat. The chance to sit in your lap or sleep on your shoulder. The chance to romp in your yard. The chance to play with siblings. The chance to be a CAT for awhile. But most of all, the chance to KNOW that he was so very **LOVED**. All those were things that he wouldn't have had without your love and doting attention. We all thank you and admire you for what you do and for sharing it so we can be a small part of it too. I don't think there is a soul on DU who would disagree that you are a SAINT.
THANK YOU from all of us!!!!!!!!

(18,656 posts)I literally gasped when I saw the title of this o.p.! I am so, so, SO sorry to hear this heart-breaking news, and I can only imagine how terrible how you must feel. I hope you can somehow find a way to take some comfort in the knowledge of how much you did for him, how much love you gave him, and how how hard you worked to care for him and make his life the best it could be. He obviously formed a strong bond with you during the short time you had with him, and I am sure your presence gave him comfort at the end.
Tudor was a beautiful, delightful little boy, and I know it must be incredibly hard to lose him. I hope that the passage of time will bring you healing and that your memories of this dear little boy will always be close to your heart and eventually be a source of joy and not only one of sorrow to you. I also hope your kidcat family will be in a snuggly mood tonight and surround you with warmth and purrs to help cushion your grief.
Thank you for sharing him with us this past week.

(4,510 posts)I am devastated, so I know you are absolutely crushed. He must have had some degenerative illness. Organs not functioning correctly, or something. You made him sooo happy while he was here. Keep remembering that. He's now jumping and playing on the Rainbow Bridge with all the lovely ones that went before him. Bless you for giving so much of yourself.

(92,684 posts)Even though we were only distant observers we were able to send love and concern. You gave him some joy and an easier passing than he would have had, he knew love and that is worth more than we can ever know. He was a happy kitty for what time he had and it was because of you and your compassion. Please try to find some comfort in that.
And there are all those others who also need you, give them some love for me today too. Remember, we're here with you.
