Related: About this forumJust took attendance and all kittens are bright eyed, present and accounted for.
This is the first morning I haven't had to clean at least one of the kitten's eyes. I will keep up on the medication but I'm very hopeful we are finally getting past the infections.
And they are full of energy!
They seem to be staying in the yard, either next to the west side of the house, in a day lily bed and against the house foundation, on the deck or racing and bouncing around beneath the shade of the Maple tree. That's everyone's favorite place to be.

(1,230 posts)Ive been up awhile, but my eyes are itchy and my energy has not caught up with me yet.
Waiting for the Benadryl to kick in for my eyes.
Lounging on the sofa with DU and N. K. Jamisons Broken Earth Trilogy at the top of my fiction pile of books-in-waiting. Im 100 pages into Book 1, so chances are good Ill finish it today. No chores that cant wait until tomorrow.
Thanks to decades of Union membership and activism, Im retired with a pension now and enjoying Labor Day at home. Heres to increasing the numbers of union memberships, and the increasing power of unions to make our world more equitable, more fair for all working people
Hugs to you, Siwsan, and scritches and cuddles to all the wee beasties!

(27,286 posts)I'm also a retired union member.
I just did a stroll around the house lot, still deciding if I'll mow or wait to mow. I'm leaning towards waiting until tomorrow.
My current reading choice is a biography of Queen Isabella, wife of Edward II, and also known as the 'She Wolf of France'. People pay a whole lot of attention to Kings but so often it's the Queen, either consort or monarch, who swings the tide of history.

(1,230 posts)Mysteries were my first favorite genre, all the way back to elementary school.
Biographies were a close second. Our school library had a good-sized collection that I devoured. One series had faded blue cloth library bindings and silhouettes and a few other black and white illustrations. I read all the scientists and presidents and investigative journalist pioneer Nellie Bly who went around the world in 72 days, nurse Florence Nightingale who founded modern nursing, nurse Clara Barton who founded the Red Cross
I have two biographies of Vincent Van Gogh and one of Ruth Badger Ginsburg in my non-fiction stack now. May have to look for the She Wolf of France next trip to the library.

(92,684 posts)I'm awaiting the next rain storm, it's windy and not warm, wet. Might get a sunrise rainbow in a few minutes, though.
Talked to Mikey's mom yesterday, he's doing fine, has a Dachshund puppy to deal with these days but he's a happy boy, still ruler of the yard, except for the wild turkeys. He's going on ten or just turned ten.

(27,286 posts)Not looking forward to the next couple of days. There's rain in the forecast for Wednesday afternoon and then temps cool down.
I keep waiting for wild turkeys to show up on my property. I know there are some in the wooded area, just north of me. I saw some in the parking lot at Ollies, earlier this year. That's in a major stretch of retail stores.

(92,684 posts)Double rainbow right now, too wet to get pictures! I stepped out but the wind is driving the rain right at me so no pics but a sunrise rainbow can't be bad!
This cold front should reach over that way soon, we were supposed to be in the 80s yesterday but it barely made it to 70 before the front blasted in.
My buddy, whom I do a lot activities with, was about 60 miles away camping and attending a car show with one of his antiques all weekend. It was a convoluted logistics situation and I offered to help but he didn't ask. Well yesterday was forecasting the rain coming in, he decided to break camp yesterday after the car show, he also made the poor decision of driving the antique back home to beat the rain and return to break camp. He has a teardrop a trailer that can't be pulled by the antique so he had to go back to bring the trailer home. Only the antique had a mechanical failure of unknown origin on his way home.
Not ten seconds after getting into my lounge-wear and sitting down to chill I get a rescue call from 30 miles out. It was blasting wind and rain at my place and I could see it might make it to his location, I had to gather my bad weather gear, get dressed and hit the road. He wanted me to bring him back to town so he could get the tow vehicle and go all the way back out to the camp, etc. He didn't even think about me towing the trailer with my 4Runner which can handle that little thing just fine. So I mentioned it could be done and save at lest 90 minutes of the waning daylight, that way I could grab his hitch from his house near me, get him and head to the camp and load up, get home before midnight. That's what we did. He didn't break stuff down before heading home so that took an hour.
The best part, once I crossed the county line, there was no rain until five minutes after I walked in the door back at my place!
So it's going to be a lot cooler and rainy for the next few days around here. It used to be that summer was essentially over, weather-wise, by August first. I'll take this over oppressive heat, though. Won't be long before it starts snowing in the mountains, hopefully.

(106,340 posts)shows a list of species that are most toxic. I just don't want anything happening to an unusually curious kitty in your group.

(27,286 posts)I'm HOPING to thin them way back but I have a bad feeling they are like the Trumpet Vine. It's a battle royale EVERY year trying to tame it. My uncle, whose house this was, had a thing for flower beds and troublesome plants. I'm in an ongoing project to either grass over or at least use mulch to decrease the size of the flower beds so that they are easier to maintain.
And, fortunately, the kitten's favorite place is against the house where there are no plants.
I also grow a lot of garlic, which I know is toxic for cats but, much like the lilies, they never bother it.

Im impressed how well you take care of the kitties. They are lucky you are there for them. Our loved animals give us so much in return, too.
Enjoy the day! Im gonna do a lazy day here, too. (I think)

(27,286 posts)As soon as the outdoor temp rose above the indoor temp I closed the windows. That should keep the house comfortable for a while.
I'm thinking about bringing a fan outside and setting it up to blow the mosquitoes away from me!!

(34,631 posts)They feast on me, too. I go out to the garden to pick a couple tomatoes and come back in the house with bites.
We have lots of shade and trees here so the a/c doesnt kick on till afternoon even on a hot day like today. At least that helps a bit with the electric bill.
