I've lost several. I miss every one of them still. The best thing we can do is make sure they go knowing they are loved.

You gave her the best life and she was lucky and loved.

What a beautiful baby girl she was. I am sure that every day of her life she felt the love you had for her.

It's always hard saying goodbye, but you did what needed to be done. I'm sure she loved you as you loved her.

Losing a beloved pet is the worst. One of the few times in my life I was reduced to a sobbing mess was when we lost our beloved Yorkie mix, Noah. My thoughts are with you in your loss.

Making the decision is the sucky part of having fur babies in your family. You gave her a good life. I had to make that decision for my 16 year old rescued off the street this past May due to cancer. I can guarantee your and my cat lived the life of Riley.

I couldn't possibly respond to all the heartfelt notes you have left for me to read. For you all to reach out with sympathy, poems, reflections on your own loss of a beloved pet, words of encouragement and caring was more than I ever expected.

What a truly wonderful, caring and yes loving group we have here on DU. Thank you so much. Your kind words are helping me get through waking up this morning with my girl not here to greet me.

It is such a sadness to lose a family member, but we have to remember the good times we shared with them.

But I like to think that we repay all the love that has been given us by not having our pets suffer.

Ozzie (for The Wizard Of Oz, because Toto was a Cairn) has been a great dog. Almost always aloof, and not 100% obedient, but what a personality. More like that of a cat, really.

I have a female cat that looks similar. Her name is Aggie and she will be 22 this coming February. She bunks in with me at night and pulls stunts like jumping on to my night stand to drink out of my water glass. She was 20 when she caught her last mouse.

Having been through it myself with fur babies too many times in the past (and likely again in the future) I know all too well that emptiness and loss. Take comfort in the memories of the good times and companionship. I wish you support and love during your grief and many happy memories in the future to dull the edge of sadness quickly.

I’m always comforted by the thought of all the grand pet babies Baby Girl will soon meet on the new adventure.

And…. Just think of all the nice things she’s saying about you in heaven. 🌈
