That depressed, fearful cat
I wanted to update everyone on the story of the cat since I doubt anyone read my post appended to the original story. Unfortunately, it was not a happy ending, at least on this side. I was gone for the weekend (doing a gem and mineral show in Tennessee, my other "profession" and returned to the shelter yesterday to find her not there. I'd been prepared to take her home and foster her while she healed. Apparently the vet saw her on Saturday, and she not only had broken facial bones, as some of you suggested she might have had, but some other things wrong with her also. I'm not clear as to what those were since I didn't get the e-mail, but she may have been FIV+ or FELV+, as some of our feral cats are, or may have had renal failure due to not eating or drinking for several days. In any case, she is now happily romping on the other side of Rainbow Bridge, healed and happy as a kitten.
The same day, we also lost a small, fuzzy black kitten we all adored, who we called Inkling, who'd come in with what seemed to be a urinary tract infection. He was on antibiotics, but apparently they weren't enough, and the stray jail boss came in Saturday to find him keeled over, his gums white, barely breathing, so he accompanied the other cat to Rainbow Bridge.
Lord, accept the smallest of these your creatures into your loving arms.
