Some of you may remember we lost Manny in May 2022. He was also known as FLFC (four legged food critic) in the Cooking and Baking forum.
We are finally in a new residence and found this guy, a 2 year old Pomeranian in need of a home. His family is military and is going overseas. He is a hefty 18 pounds when Manny was 6 at his heaviest. He is full of kisses and hugs and incessant tail wagging. We are busy learning about each other. His name is Koda, but we want to rename him. He does answer to Cody which sounds the same to him I guess. That's my choice, but I'll have to defer to his new mama.
Here is a photo of him I put on Twitter. I don't have anything set up on photo sharing sites at the moment and don't really mind Musk paying for the server.

Wagging tails make my world go round.
He is pretty. We have a cat that came to us as Cody. It makes a nice call name.

(113,130 posts)You can train them to respond to a new name but I figured why pour on the stress when they were already getting out of Kitty Auschwitz and into a new home with a new person. It would be a help if the new person knew who they were.
Cody sounds like a good name for him, so be persuasive.

(18,649 posts)We've adopted 2 shelter cats, and we renamed them both. The first one was called Romeo when we brought him home. I didn't care for the name, and he didn't respond to it at all, so I had no compunctions about changing it. He became Logan, and it suited him perfectly if I do say so myself.
After Logan passed back in 2018, we adopted a little tortie girl called Monica. I thought it was kind of a cute name, but she just didn't seem like a Monica to me, and once again didn't react to the name one way or another. My daughter and I named her Willow.
If either cat had seemed to have any attachment whatever to the shelter name, I might have made a different choice. But they really didn't seem to care.
Even an animal that responds to a particular name can usually adjust very easily to a different one that sounds similar, like Koda responding to Cody. Have fun with that cute little guy, and don't hesitate to give him whatever name you want.

(25,436 posts)That is also my husbands nasty ex-wifes name. No way we were keeping that name. I renamed her Chessie and changed it on the paperwork before we even left the building.

(18,111 posts)He no longer incessantly wags his tail after realizing it is not necessary to be part of the pack.
We are adjusting to each other very well and he seems to catch on quickly to changes in routine that differ from his old home.
I'm replying to this post with a photo (on twitter) of him relaxing after killing toys. He alternates naps with puppy like play.
