I have an older cat with long hair, which is clumping/matting up most severely in the hip area. I try to pull the clumps apart with varying results, they never go away entirely. Smaller clumps in the chest area. He used to love to be brushed but - no more! Any suggestions for removing/preventing this condition?

Usually about halfway through the clump and never to close to his skin. It worked well.

I can do that when he is sleeping, but it's one snip and he is gone! If I'm lucky, mostly he senses what is happening before I can get a snip in.

I got this many years ago but, don’t recall where.

It has the # 876SB on it- Perhaps that’ll help.
