That happens to me a lot. Shaking the treat jar was brilliant! I do similar stuff . . . and sometimes never find the hideout either.

I've had pure panic trying to find my little Tommie and with him being all black so hard to find. They have great hiding places when they want us to panic looking for them.

And the munchkins seem to find portals to alternate universes. That's the only reasonable explanation

I think every cat does that to their human, letting you know who's the boss here. I hate it when they do that.

I sometimes wonder if I'll make it to my medication evaluation appointment. Three weeks until that. Two weeks until I see my therapist. I feel like a ticking time bomb. Fortunately my kidcats are always ready to give me a head nuzzle or sing a duet with me. That does help.

they wander off to just to get their humans wound up. Mine does that all the time. Lately she found a new portal at the back of a closet.

She has to be in house, where else can she be. Well, turns out she was in the linen closet. I had been putting towels away, closed the door, and she cat-steathled into the closet. It took me an hour to calm 😌 down.

find the .ittle furballs, when they pull a disappearing act like that, I am convinced they use their portals and go into their own dimension.

I went through a similar situation one time. Could not find one of my girls, freaked that she might have gotten out, even though I could not remember opening the door. Even rattled the dry food bag. Then I needed to start dinner, opened the cabinet, and there she was, sleeping amoung the pots and pans. How she got the cabinet door ooen, I have no idea. She also looked a bit contrite. After that, I knew to check the cabinet.

35+ years go, one of our cats got out of the house without our knowing, and was hit by a car and was gone. One of our neighbors came to tell us. She was an indoor cat, and had not ever shown any interest in getting out. We never figured out how she slipped out.

Due to that devastating experience, the moment I can’t find one of our current kitties, my mind immediately goes to worst case scenario status. Heart rate up, knot in my stomach, etc.

To help ease my tendency to panic, each of our cats wears a TILE device on their collars so that I can “beep” them with my phone if they are hiding somewhere. It’s really good peace of mind.
