Related: About this forumDo dogs run faster than humans?
My new grand dog is a 2 year old Golden Retriever. He runs like the wind, in all his golden glory. His family have at least 2 acres mowed behind the house and he gets to the tree line in 5 seconds. With the Summer Olympics going on, I can't help wondering if he'd beat out the sprinters

(97 posts)I have read, and tend to believe that humans can outrun most animals at long distances because their ability to cool their body gives them an advantage.

(108,340 posts)Dogs are much faster than humans. Usain Bolt set the 100-meter world record with a time of 9.58 seconds and a top speed of 22.9 miles per hour. In contrast, a greyhound can run 100 meters in only 5.33 seconds. A greyhound can outrun a horse in a sprint because it accelerates so quickly.

Obviously, a Golden won't be quite as fast as a greyhound, but still...
