Here's something I don't think people think about. Why would I think of it? Because I guess I'm a tortoise dad now. If you look closely at the center that's Batty's belly button. The shell takes awhile to actually close up after they come out of their egg. You have to make sure it stays clean and doesn't get infected. I should have taken a picture when we first got Batty. It was still slightly open and red colored.

Still trying to get Batty to eat a wider diet. She did eat some of the grass finally today. Not much but at least tried it. Ended up giving her some kale.

That little belly button is so cute! Thanks for the biology lesson, too. Never thought about a tortoise coming out of the egg having a belly button! Thanks for the post. Take care.
