Related: About this forumProgress with Carys being around Merlin
I'm trying to get Merlin to eat as much as he can so he will put on weight so I'm 'taste testing' some foods with him. Today it is tuna.
As I was dishing some out for Merlin, Madoc and Carys came trotting in to the kitchen. Of course they both got some, too. Now, Carys will gobble down her food and then invade the nearest sibling food bowl. She finished her tuna and then edged Madoc away from his. (I gave him more.) Then she looked towards Merlin's dish but didn't make her usual move. She only looked at him but then returned to trying to lick every molecule of tuna from her bowl and Madoc's. As long as Merlin was eating, she kept clear. (He likes tuna.) There were a few soft and very low demi-growls from her but that was it.
Finally, after Merlin was done, then and only then did she approach him. She gave his butt a quick sniff and then started in on the tiny tuna scraps he'd left.
Then she ran up and 'hid' beneath the table, on a chair. I think they are both still in the kitchen and I hear no chaos so maybe she's finally accepting him as much as she does any of the rest of us.
So I call that progress.

(93,315 posts)On a couple levels!
Making progress with the three next door, their human might be home today, maybe. They come when called without too much trouble, still using the lilac switches that they love. They don't try to dart out the door when I arrive and leave and they haven't destroyed anything in the past nine days!
My big progress is with Peeps, the mom cat, she's around five years old and has never had any proper training. She has taken to what I'm doing with the kittens (ha! they're like eight pounders now) and follows instruction. She gets to stay out for a time after dark. So far she comes right up to the door when I go to put her in, no contest. She's such a good girl, very smart, I think she's happy someone noticed... someone who speaks cat.
Anyway, progress with both Merlin and Carys is significant. You deserve a treat, I mean something you enjoy not just a piece of cake!

(18,923 posts)I'm not surprised that Merlin likes to a. I think it's been a favorite with just about every cat I've ever had. Willow adores it! 😻
