Editors note: Following Steve Jobss death on October 5, 2011, Jony Ive delivered a eulogy in which he referred to the chairman and co-founder of Apple as my closest and my most loyal friend. Ive, who later left his post as chief design officer at Apple and went on to launch the creative collective LoveFrom, wrote this remembrance in which he reflects on his memories of Jobss last day, the spirit of their collaboration, his friendship with Jobss wife, Laurene Powell Jobs, and why his late friend continues to evade a simple place in my memory.

Steve Jobs an American inventor, entrepreneur and co-founder of Apple Inc. died of complications from pancreatic cancer at the age of 56 on Oct. 5, 2011. ... Jobs was born on Feb. 24, 1955, in San Francisco, California. He was adopted as a baby by Paul and Clara Jobs.
Jobs graduated from high school in Cupertino, California, in 1972. Afterward, he attended Reed College, a liberal arts school in Portland, Oregon, for one semester before dropping out. He then worked for video game maker Atari and then traveled to India to study Zen Buddhism.
In 1976, Jobs and his friend Stephen Wozniak, a computer engineer, founded Apple Computer in Jobs' parents' garage.
"We started Apple because we wanted the product ourselves," Jobs said in 1991. "We didn't start out to build a large company. We started out to build a few dozen computers for us and our friends."
