It was used to regularize humidity in an offset printing plant. If you’re running offset and you don’t have AC your press prints differently in summer than winter - a problem we have at the shop I work in.

Fun fact: Carrier sponsored the football stadium at Syracuse University until 2022. The Carrier Dome was built without AC and they didn’t have it until the naming rights were bought by a different company.
