In the ritual, a small candle/ oil wick lamp is waved in front of the god-body-double and a prayer/ chant is said in Sanskrit.
It is an acknowledgement of the source of all light and knowledge; the power behind the power of the sun and cosmos.
Just as the darkest of the eclipse was occurring, so also were the words leaving my mouth, "... na tatra sūryo bhāti na candratārakam naimā vidyuto bhānti kuto'yamagnih (there the sun does not shine nor the moon or stars nor does lightening shine. What to say of this fire? ..."

Just coincidence, or was it?
