U.S. will not appeal judge's ruling on no-fly list mistake

SAN FRANCISCO Tue Mar 25, 2014 12:39pm EDT

(Reuters) - The U.S. government will not appeal a court ruling this year that found inadequate due-process protections for a Malaysian architect who wound up on a federal no-fly list by mistake.

Rahinah Ibrahim sued the U.S. government in 2006 after she was placed on the no-fly list and was then denied a U.S. visa. Judge William Alsup ruled in her favor, saying that existing procedures to correct mistakes on the no-fly list do not provide adequate due process protections.

On Tuesday, a lawyer for the Department of Justice said in court that the government will not appeal that ruling.
