What they're going on is the word of some old schoolmates who "knew who the gay students and priests were".

How did they know?

If he is indeed gay, don't just out him-- close down his "foundation" and get him the help he apparently needs to get over this denial.

Find these types awful and messed up and needing help. It would be wonderful for him to stop the self loathing behaviors and accept his true nature as being ok.

overcompensating and feeling some misplaced guilt and who knows what else.

The problem with people with this problem is that while they are destroying themselves, they are taking a lot of other people down with them.
