Hate Group Creates ‘Anti-Christian Map’ and Makes Gay People Targets

Care2 Causes

The American Family Association (AFA) has created its own interactive map it claims is a tool to highlight “anti-Christian bigotry,” but it may actually be playing a dangerous game where LGBTs stand to get hurt.

If you aren’t familiar with the AFA, for over a decade or so the group had been the go-to for journalists seeking a religious conservative viewpoint, particularly on issues relating to gay rights, but the group has since lost any sense of credibility as the general public’s attitudes have shifted, and swiftly, leaving the AFA often looking shrill and out of touch as a hate-mongering pseudo-Christian outfit.

This has been helped in no small part by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) which has labeled the AFA an extremist hate group. The SPLC provides extensive evidence for that label including the AFA’s broad support for ex-gay conversion therapy despite the failures of its own people to pray the gay away, it’s holding onto discredited notions about so-called gay diseases, and its spokespeople who until recently included Bryan Fischer, a man who was as at home saying Jewish people don’t get First Amendment rights because they only apply to Christians gas he was calling for being gay to be recriminalized.

In what is likely a reaction to the SPLC listing the AFA on its own “hate map,” which incidentally only lists extremist groups and not other groups that just simply say they believe being LGBT is a sin, the AFA this past week released its own map, the so-called “Bigotry Map.” By the AFA’s own description, the map contains ”more than 200 groups and organizations that openly display bigotry toward the Christian faith.”

The map contains four categories: “Homosexual Agenda,” “Anti-Christian,” “Atheist” and “Humanist.”

To give you an idea of what might get a group listed, the “Homosexual Agenda” category reads:

Advocates for the legalization and promotion of same-sex marriage and viciously attacks Christians who exercise their First Amendment right to voice support for God’s plan for marriage as between one man and one woman.
