Mayor Bill de Blasio Will Skip St. Patrick’s Day Parade Over Policy on Gays

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is taking a stand for equality and sitting out of this year’s Saint Patrick’s Day parade, making him the first mayor in 20 years to refuse to participate.

Only one group is permitted to carry an LGBT-themed banner in the parade up Fifth Avenue in New York City this year, but the mayor doesn’t feel that is enough.

In a statement the Mayor said Sunday, “We need something more for it to really feel like we’ve turned the corner. A lot of people feel – I think, rightfully – that that is too small a change to merit a lot of us participating.”

I hope that his legacy rivals the GREAT Mayor LaGuardia (Republican, but quite Liberal)!
