Hundreds brave persistent rain at LGBT rally in Vietnam

Vietnam’s annual gay parade has taken to the streets of Hanoi with hundreds joined the rally for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) rights despite persistent rain.

HANOI: In a country dominated by two-wheelers, Vietnam’s gay pride parade on Sunday (Aug 2) was fittingly on bicycle and motorbike.

Organisers counted about 400 people at the start of the bike rally. Though the turnout was smaller than the 600 in the previous year, it was encouraging, they said, given the rainy weather.

“I want to show that we are straight but we can support LGBT," said one Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) rights supporter. "I have a lot of friends from LGBT so I’m here to support them," added another supporter.
