First, the play is a story about an old man who switches souls and bodies with a young bride. So it's homosexual only if you believe the old man (in a woman's body) having sex with the husband is homosexuality. As its a comedy, there seems to be some question about them having sex, but also the body is female. Is it homosexuality?

That point, however, is moot. The real issue is this: the viewers had no problem at all with a romantic comedy with a ton of heterosexual content including pre-marital sex. Why is homosexual content considered "mature?" Why is it shocking and verboten? Gay teens are interested in each other--why shouldn't there be a play that has them in it, as normal and ordinary as a heterosexual couple?

The real issue here isn't whether the play has any homosexual content. The real issue is that homosexual content is being labeled as "R" rated, not suitable for "teens"--which is total bullsh*t. Either the whole range of sexual attraction from straight to bi to gay is objectionable and too mature for teens or none of it is. Just because one doesn't like homosexuality doesn't mean that it's a "mature" subject matter. That's both ridiculous and homophobic.

And it's long past time we stopped letting such people control the dialogue on this topic. We need to take control and make sure that whenever homosexual attraction is mentioned, it's seen as no bigger a deal than heterosexual attraction. Normal, boring, and, at best PG-13.

And it's kind of crazy because I know these people. Mr. Clapp is well known in the area as the drama teacher, and a good one (the high school and college have campuses that are connected on one side). It's a VERY small town. I don't remember if Mr. Clapp himself, is gay, or if people just speculated about it, but I think this has more to do with that otherwise. Also, although we won marriage last year, it wasn't easy and there are still many sore losers right now. I don't think they'll disqualify them, for what it's worth. I think it's probably just some poor losers who don't like Doug Clapp.

And gender is a tricky thing. A man stuck in a woman's body is still a man, so on one hand, yes, that is a gay relationship--on the other hand, the husband didn't know, so it can be seen as straight from his perspective. This is discussed ad nauseum among the trans* community. But, I think that's digging too deep into what is suppose to be a joke.
