IMO, this is a Horrible, No Good, Very Bad approach.
I get baby steps, but this is the same shit that governors Nikki Haley (R-SC) and Rick Scott (R-Florida) did with Charlotte's Web, following Ahnold's move as CA governor - give the bare minimum in order to block consideration of the real deal. Scott only conceded because he hopes the MMJ bill fails this fall.
Medical Marijuana for ALL who need it. HIV/AIDS, Cancer/Chemo, MS, Fibro, PSTD, etc, etc, etc - the list goes on. CBD oil doesn't address nausea and weight maintenance - what about these needs? If the entourage effect of ALL cannabinoids (including various levels of THC) wasn't a factor, then pharma knockoffs like Sativex, Dronabinol/Marinol and Cesamet would work for these kids. They Don't. Booze on the other hand? Meh. Not a problem.
The US Government has a damn patent on cannabis as a neuroprotector that addresses auto-immune disorders but they are only going to reschedule high CBD - meaning nothing else can be studied? What hypocrites.
A bill being introduced Monday in the U.S. House of Representatives could be Cox's ticket home. The three-page bill would amend the Controlled Substances Act -- the federal law that criminalizes marijuana -- to exempt plants with an extremely low percentage of THC, the chemical that makes users high.

(45,358 posts)I agree that the bare minimum thing is insulting. They just passed it in MO and I'm asking, what about my epileptic dog? Does she not count because she's not human?
Federal legalization is the only path. Full legalization.

(26,312 posts)It is hoping to keep everything down to a dull roar so that they can claim some bullshit "middle ground" of course, "for the kids", in the hopes of blocking MMJ legislation.
Don't get me wrong - I am ALL for kids who need CBD oil getting it. No question. But this does not address the research being blocked on OTHER uses of the plant. If anything, it kicks the can even further down the road.

(18,652 posts)Big Pharma is pulling the strings. Pharma does not want people getting med mj at lower costs than their expensive drugs already developed for epilepsy, chemo and other chronic illnesses. Pharma certainly doesn't want people growing their own or buying Charlotte's Web from a friend/neighbor, which is likely to happen if med mj drugs are expensive. (This is already happening). Pharma's old drugs are making them billion$ annually and they see mj as a threat.
Congress is just acceding to the demands of their puppetmasters in holding mj hostage. My take: Congress is MAYBE going to put CBD in a different class and legalize it b/c Big Pharma has figured out how to make $$$ off it.

Are cops going to start having to ID the strains or THC content of your weed before they decide to bust you? "Sorry sir, this is Northern Lights and the THC to CBD ratio is 20% higher than the law allows. You sir are a criminal and not a patient"

(26,312 posts)Schedule 1 = NO medicinal use.
Either this weed has medicinal use or it doesn't. Slicing off 10% of it in the hopes that people stop trying to get it studied is a BS move.

IMO it's already legal, kind of by default, we're just waiting for the idiot politicians to pass the law.

(32,982 posts)high taxes at every level.....25% for each transaction.....25% from grower to retailer and 25% retailer to buyer. I've talked to people who smoke and they have few objections. Most state that they feel good knowing the source is reliable and safe.

(18,652 posts)CO and WA take in, and what "issues" mj causes in those states before sticking their necks out. These people have no scruples. Their goal is to get elected or reelected - beyond that, most of them are big zeros

(18,652 posts)It appears that yes, they will have to do that.
My guess if you can show a med mj registration card, they won't bother.

(18,652 posts)as a cancer patient, even though med mj is legalized for 2 yrs. My Senator Blumenthal (D-CT) wrote me in response to a letter about this, too bad, I can't do anything for you b/c mj is a Sched. 1 drug. And then he added incongruously that mj is a state issue, even though the Sched 1 designation is federal.
The powers-that-be are truly tying themselves in knots to prevent the mj cat from getting out of the bag. Just legalize it already.
