‘Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol’ claims enough signatures for Colo. ballot

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/02/17/regulate-marijuana-like-alcohol-claims-enough-signatures-for-colo-ballot/

The Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol said Friday morning that it had turned in more than enough valid petition signatures to get their initiative on the ballot later this year.

In order to secure a spot on the Colorado statewide ballot, initiatives must carry at least 86,105 valid signatures. Out of the 163,000 signatures initially turned in, only 83,696 were declared valid, forcing the campaigners to carry out an extended effort.

...the proposed initiative calls for the law to allow adults over 21 to possess up to one ounce of marijuana and grow up to six plants at home. It would also establish a regulatory framework for the sales of marijuana at storefronts, but gives local governments the opportunity to deny permits for commercial activity related to marijuana.

California voters turned down a similar initiative in 2010 by a margin of 57 percent to 43 percent. A Gallup poll published in Oct. 2011 found that, for the first time ever, more than half of Americans favor legalization, marking a dramatic turnaround from just15 years ago when more than 70 percent of Americans favored continuing prohibition.

Colorado claims its laws have been better conceived than the one in CA. CO also doesn't have some in the emerald triangle to oppose.

Though it's impossible to grow that many plants and possess less than one ounce.

Good luck CO!

between an ounce of dried plant material vs. live plants - and, if this is the case, they should definitely clarify that language

even so, how can you have six plants, one of which, say, at a time could be harvested and then have far more than an ounce from one plant in your home at that time?

And keep several mothers of course.

It would be a real challenge to harvest less than 4oz dry per plant without trimming bud sites off during flowering. Of course that would just make the main buds that much fatter. All things being equal, I'd trade the problem for the freedom to be able to grow for myself.

I don't know - but you bring up a real problem with the language - but this is a quote from Raw Story, not the language of the bill

I found the text of it here:

Legal speak is not something I'm great at but I'm not seeing anything I don't like. I'm very excited about this and fully support legalizing it.

The first name I tried was 'Uncle Joe' because I had just become an uncle... That name was taken. So since I was in Ohio and had seen other people use the state along with their first name, I went with that. Having moved is not the worst part of it, the worst is that a few years later, Ohio Joe the freakin plummer teabagger came along. Maybe 'smokin Joe' heh, I'll have to look at whats available when it comes up.
