DENVER Wondering if that brownie contains pot? Colorado has you covered.
A requirement that edible marijuana products come with a diamond-shaped stamp and the letters T-H-C not just on the packaging but on the brownies, candies and other edibles themselves takes effect Saturday.
The rule referencing marijuanas psychoactive ingredient was added after complaints that the treats look too much their non-intoxicating counterparts. It is the first such requirement in any legal weed state.
Colorados new universal symbol for foods that contain marijuana is designed to give the treats a distinct look even after theyre out of the packaging. In other words, a pot cookie being passed around a high school cafeteria no longer will look so innocent, giving parents a way to identify marijuana edibles without smelling or tasting them.

(113,130 posts)from other things that look very similar. Dosage instructions should be required, also, since people who are not used to the increased punch of edibles have run into trouble with them, meaning hours of paranoia and generally feeling really awful but without permanent harm.

(10,402 posts)I think a lot of people that have never smoked try the edibles because god forbid they don't want to take a few puffs of smoke. The high lasts way too long for a first time experience imho.

(80,708 posts)People for sure need to be educated about edibles, particularly because in my experience they can take between 1-2 hours to fully kick in.
So you don't want to be "hey Im not feeling it, will eat some more".
That said, though, the hyperbole around "edible overdoses" is overblown, I think. If you discover you're too high, you generally don't need to call 911 or go to the emergency room. You need to drink something like orange juice- blood sugar is a factor- and maybe put on some chilling music or a funny movie, remind yourself that you're just really high, it will pass, and not stress about it.

(10,402 posts)Although I would never recommend edibles to someone who has never tried weed before. I would advise taking a small puff instead.

(80,708 posts)I don't think anyone is gonna be "ohmigod I'm too high" after 5.
But smoking it is quicker and easier and much better to gauge, for sure.
