"Some people dislike gays. Others dislike guns. We should not base our laws on personal dislikes."

(The other poster reads, in case your browser can't display image or the link dies, "We won our right to marry...now it's time to defend our right!&quot

As Seattle alt weekly The Stranger (which also is the home of Dan Savage's advice column) reports:

The QR code on all of the posters lead to the same pro-gun website that prompts readers to decide whether guns are a liability or a useful tool. If you click on the "right" answer—useful tool—you're directed to a series of pro-gun links that affirm your choice. If you click on the "wrong" answer—liability—you're ushered through a series of increasingly paranoid and/or off topic questions that equate cyber crime and prohibition with gun crime, or hypothesize how many criminals you'll have to fight off in your life time. Each question is multiple choice, like this:

The proper response to an arson is...

1) prohibit you and other law-abiding citizens from buying gasoline.
2) prohibit you and other law-abiding citizens from buying any flammable fluids, matches and lighters.
3) prosecute the perpetrator of the crime

The questionnaire is supposed to underscore how important it is for you to be armed to the teeth all times. The arguments aren't new or particularly convincing, I just find it striking that a traditionally conservative movement is branching out to recruit gays and lesbians.

It's hard to know who's responsible for putting the posters up all over Capitol Hill. "Nale Dixon," who's credited for drawing the cartoon of the gay couple, returns no search results online. The pro-gun website is run by a dude named Oleg Volk, "An American," but that doesn't necessarily mean he's responsible for papering the hill with them. Without someone to credit, it's impossible to glean the posterer's intentions.

Capitol Hill in Seattle is Seattle's equivalent of San Francisco's Castro district essentially as Capitol Hill has a large LGBT community.

Really? Using guns to defend a gay marriage? Does the poster really think the people in CH will really buy into that "guns defend liberty" BS that the right has been peddling for years? And then that other poster equating guns and gay people as "personal dislikes" due to both being targeted by laws...another big WTF.

The manufacturers have gunners rapped around their fingers by keeping them so afraid of life they keep buying more guns.
Now they drop the homophobia because it is passé and try to spread the fear.

And "rapped" [wrapped] around the finger of the manufacturer I still wouldn't buy "more guns." Can only use one gun at a time, maybe two if you are Doc Holliday. Your premise lacks any basis in reality or any supporting facts. But maybe we should just trust you on this point?

They're trying to conflate the push for gun safety laws with homophobia!

It's absurd! You'll never find a more bigoted homophobic bunch than the NRA gun-huggers.

The usual strawman.

The point being made is that gun owners and gays have something in common -- because both groups attract hateful culture warriors. And it's an honest point.

Could have been more carefully worded. But to deny that contempt for guns doesn't transfer to their owners is just the silliest and most obvious mendacity. Your'e simply seizing on a less-than-ideal presentation to dismiss a valid point --- which is what the second sentence addresses -- the culture war that the vast majority of "gun control" represents.

So by all means.......keep up with the lightweight distractions. They've been serving you so well thus far!

Everybody in the echo chamber "knows" there are no gay or lesbian gun owners.

We've been told repeatedly that the Pink Pistols either: A) do not really exist and are just a creation of the NRA PR machine, or B) they are a bunch of right wing phonies pretending to be gay just to give gun nuts cover. .

(All of which will come a surprise to the 4 classes of them I've taught Basic Pistol to so far.)

When you consider that much of the gun control mania from the late sixties was a direct Republican response to minority unrest of the time, I consider the issues of discrimination and civil rights (in this case the RKBA) are inextricably linked.

...IDK, maybe all the people who are killed and injured by people with guns? Especially when its in whole bunches at a time?

Which is, of course why 'disliking guns' is a bit more justifiable then 'disliking gays'. Really don't think all that many people would 'dislike guns', or try to pass laws controlling them better, if it wasn't for all the damage they can & do contribute to.

Theory:

The reason there is so much animosity/fear over guns is because many progressives have been in such retreat from and under such constant attack by the RW, they have chosen to crystalize their opposition to extremists in a gun culture. It's easy, it's handy, and there are elites which can still prop up some kind of "movement" (really an outlook) and for a time raise a stir. Unfortunately, this limited "thing" approach to massive social problems fails to promote the common good, and worse keeps the RW a well-oiled machine.

Gun-control is an insight into the larger failings of modern progressive politics, in terms of cohesive policy, self-identity, outreach to the citizenry, grassroots organization and lack of party presence.
