To the point of gun politics

One apparent tactic of pro-control is to publish a continuous stream of examples that highlight either the evils of guns, the evils of pro-gun orgs (NRA for example), evils of gun makers/sellers/owners or the high ground/long suffering good work of those in the pro-control camp.

Of the 73 OPs posted here since 1 August, 33 are copy/paste pro-control or anti-gun and are comment free.

The same member who happens to be poster of all of those 33 OPs, has in the same 22 day period made 23 replies in threads in this group in total. Other members, who have pro-control feelings have posted here as well, numerous times and with both OPs and general replies. I hope pro-control folks post here more often in the future.

I have deep respect for anyone who voices their opinions here in this group. I have, in the course of dialog with several pro-control folks, been enlighten, informed and/or adopted a new take on certain issues, universal background checks being one. I realize that many members adopt the LBN style of posting in various forums and groups all over the internet. I want to go on record here with the position that, while these OPs inform, they also serve to sink other discussions.

I will be continuing my effort to examine older threads and respond or simply kick them as I see fit in order to continue what I see as meaningful exchanges.

I have no interest in stifling discussion but I have little interest in today's news dump that only parallels news dumps of the past. It is my intention to wait for 10 replies or 24 hours, whatever comes first, and examine these dumps. At that point any that I don't find containing a point of interest to me, I will trash.

This is my solution to what I view as means for me to get more out of DU overall. I won't have to waste time reading what isn't productive. That time is better spent in other groups and forums.

Let me right here thank the admins, our host krispos42 and everyone on both sides for sharing and making DU what it is.

This may be a better policy than "trashing" a poster. I don't know what the material Eleanors38 Aug 2015 #1

effect will be on this group's posting policy, but it might lessen the distraction that occurs now. What do you think of merely announcing you have trashed this thread as opposed or in addition to the formal trashing feature?

I don't ignore or trash members. Only threads/OPs.

I firmly believe I can learn something from most everyone.

Thanks

Republicans

Now and then they have points that are correct but AFAIK not any points that aren't also shared by liberals and moderates.
Even broken clocks are correct twice a day.

I don't mean to disrespect either side with this but my interest doesn't lie in a rehash of the evening news on DU.

I generally read a news paper once a week, view the national news almost daily and the local news most days on TV. I make avid use of the spam bucket on all of my email accounts and I see this as an analogous mindset.

I don't begrudge anyone from engaging their type of posting but I have no interest in participating.

To each his own.
