Timothy B. Phonisay died at Froedtert Hospital during surgery.
Phonisay was apparently posing with his gun and it discharged when he went to holster it, firing a round into his right groin and striking the femoral artery, according to the medical examiner's report.
Phonisay purchased the Springfield .45-caliber handgun three months ago and had a concealed carry permit, according to the report. His death was ruled an accident.

(15,396 posts)I've got to wonder was this a 1911?
Was it a springer with the grip safety?
Was he new to CC?
What type of holster?
What location? Was it a IWB that you poke down the front of your pants (AIWB??? maybe???)
Who to hell ever decided sticking a gun down your pants in the front was a great idea???
Was he poking, pulling, adjusting trying to get the stupid thing in a position that felt a little less like you had a chunk of steel stuffed in his pants?
I always carry OWB, or pocket carry my LCP in a pocket holster. I refuse to CC inside my pants....I have to bend, sit and other stuff and like to do that in comfort with pants that fit me. Call me kookie...LOL
From a conceal carry standpoint there's much we can learn from this incident if we read, and discuss it.

Emergency responders were sent at 7:05 PM to the 1500 block of Fourth Avenue Southeast, where they found the man with injuries to his left hand and thigh. The bullet passed through both limbs, the report says. He told police he keeps the .22 caliber handgun with him for protection after receiving threats, Sherwin said, and had fallen asleep about 6 PM with the gun between his legs. No charges have been filed in any of the incidents.

(16,974 posts)The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's office has indetified the man as 48-year-old Chadd Michael Wood of Lawton.
Authorities say Wood was driving a high-performance sports car and had just left a local restaurant here Texas Corners.
Witnesses say he was driving in the westbound lane of Q Ave. when the car suddenly started to fishtail. The red Dodge Viper went off the road and hit a large tree in its path before wrapping around a second tree and catching fire.
Investigators, during their accident reconstruction will try to determine what led to the driving losing control of the vehicle. They will look into whether or not the high-performance sports car had been souped up. An autopsy will also determine if alcohol may have been a factor.

(4,879 posts)but I felt compelled to say: good, one less dumb ass with a gun.
I own a gun (and a shotgun). I have never felt the need to play with them or prove my prowess with them.
I don't know what kind of laws can be passed to stop idiots from having guns.
